For calculating additional shipping cost, for shipping outside of the U.S.A. shipping weight is: Four (4) pounds
Narrative Volume one of this two-volume set covers historical trends and two major aspects of drilling technologies, downhole motors and oil well drilling optimization (Key Technological Wells drilling method) Unlike the U.S. and other countries, which use rotary drilling, the Russians use downhole hydraulic and electrical motors that power the bit downhole. Using a downhole motor is more efficient, especially in hard formations. Advanced drilling studies have long been conducted in the FSU and are important in reducing drilling costs in marginal reservoirs. This technology is beginning to gain popularity in the U.S. and other countries.
Key Features and Benefits Valuable Russian drilling techniques translated into English An excellent historical account of the development of drilling technologies in the FSU Includes mathematical models and rationale for the KTW drilling method
About the Authors Dr. Mikhail Y. Gelfgat is President and CEO of Aquatic Company, an engineering R&D firm in Moscow. Dr. Gelfgat served at Drilling Research Institute for 25 years. His expertise is coring techniques, retractable drillbits, aluminum tubulars, downhole motors and deep wells, and hard rock drilling. He earned his mechanical engineering degree from Moscow High Technical School and his Ph.D. in oil and gas well drilling from VNIIBT. He has published more than 50 papers and articles and is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and American Society Mechanical Engineers.
Dr. Yakov A. Gelfgat served as Director of Drilling Technology at the Drilling Research Institute VNIIBT (later NPO Burovaya Tekhnika) for more than 30 years. He has held many distinguished positions including Deputy Director of the drilling department in the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Petroleum Industry, and Leading Specialist of the State Scientific-Industrial Committee. Early in his career, Gelfgat developed turbodrilling and directional wells construction. He earned a Ph.D. in oil well drilling from VNIIBT. He is the author of more than 70 books and articles as well as 40 inventions.
Dr. Yuri S. Lopatin is the department Deputy Chief of Prospecting Oilfield Equipment Development at Moscow Machine Works. He served 39 years in VNIIBT and won a Gold Medal of Brussels EUREKA-97 at the 46th International Salon Inventions and Innovations and New Technologies. Lopatin earned a Mining Engineer degree from Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute and a Ph.D. in oil well drilling from Moscow Institute of Oil & Gas. He has published more than 50 articles on gas-liquid mixtures application in drilling.
